Blaise is Blaise Granier, my great-great-grandfather. He was born in 1851 and his parents in the 1870s were still raising silkworms, and doing market gardening: tomatoes, melons, olives and a little grain.
Blaise left at the age of 20 to work in Paris – at the Chais de Bercy – and became a wine merchant. Returning to the village when his father died in 1904, he was the first of the family to plant vines in 1910.
The farm, which has become almost 100% wine-growing, is still a family farm today. And it’s me, Stéphanie Rougnon, who runs it, while waiting for the next (s).
